How to use it

Download the Word file for typing, or the PDF for hand-writing.
Write a word, clue, number or small drawing in each piece.
Print on white or coloured paper. Card makes sturdier pieces.
Cut along the lines, mix up the pieces and give the puzzle to someone to solve.
Keep each puzzle in an envelope or a zip bag so no pieces go missing.

About this template

The first is a 12-piece message puzzle on landscape A4: write one word or clue per piece, cut it up and put the message back together. The second has six large pieces on portrait A4, for children to draw or write on. Both come as Word and PDF with a blank and a worked example. The pieces are rectangles rather than curved jigsaw shapes, which makes them quick to cut with scissors and easy to use with younger children.

Questions

Can I make the pieces a different size?

Yes. Edit the table in Word and change the row height and column width. The more pieces you add, the smaller each one becomes.

What can I use these for?

Birthday messages, spelling and number practice, matching pairs, team games, family trees, "all about me" activities or a puzzle-style gift note.

Are they suitable for young children?

Large pieces work best for younger children. Supervise cutting and keep scissors age-appropriate.

Can I laminate them?

Yes. Laminate the sheet before you cut for pieces that last. Laminating pouches are sold in most stationery shops.
